E1: The Four Main Structural Forces at play in a Nation’s Prosperity
In this episode, we discuss 4 main structural forces that should be taken into consideration when analyzing the prospects for the future of a country. These 4 forces include: Demographic, Environmental, Economic, and Technological forces. Using these 4 major forces as a framework for discussing the macro-environment that Haiti operates in will allow us to paint a clearer picture of the true challenges, threats, as well as the opportunities that exist.
E2: The Emerging Dynamics that enable of prevent Haitian Society to Function
In this episode, we discuss the emerging dynamics that enable or prevent Haitian society to function, including the growing pessimism from the largest segment of the population: the youth. This growing pessimism is tied to a degrading sense of identity, uncertainty about the future, mistrust in institutions, which ultimately leads to taking on criminal activity as a form of survival. We also explore the need for a complete re-design of how the Haitian government is structured, because in its current format it is not capable of servicing a rapidly growing population. Finally, we also touch on the potential role that the diaspora can play. Ultimately, there Is a need for a complete RE/SET, RE/FORMAT, and RE/LAUNCH of Haiti as nation, essentially tackling all the foundational elements of nation building because what is currently there is not adequate or effective, and therefore should not be maintained or built upon — in other words, press the delete button and lets start over on a fresh new page with a new mindset focused on shared prosperity.
E3: Simulating the Future - Path to Anarchy
In this episode, we discuss using tech-enabled simulation to forecast scenarios for potential future outcomes , and leveraging those insights to make informed datas-drive decisions for public policy planning.
E4: How Haiti will emerge from the crisis — Unpacking Resiliency Planning
What is resiliency? And is Haiti a resilient country? For years the international community has described Haiti as “resilient, despite being the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere”, a paradoxical narrative that illustrates Haitians as being able to continue with life despite enduring the hardships caused by man-made and nature-made disasters. Many of us Haitians have also adopted that narrative that we are a resilient nation, but are we truly? Resiliency as it is described, is the ability to quickly recover from a difficult situation, to bounce back and return to normal and sometimes even better than before the crisis or disaster. In this episode, we unpack the concept of resiliency, and how the starting point for emerging out of any crisis is to have a resiliency plan that allows one to bounce back not only to survive, but to thrive.
E5: Simulating the Future — Path to Prosperity
What does the path to prosperity look like? What are the key elements needed for us to build this path and reach the destination we envision?
E6: Building Trust & Transparency thru Governance
How do we enforce agreements and national doctrines like a constitution?
Given how low the barometer for trust is currently in our Haitian leaders, how might we instead build greater trust and increase transparency in the system? Is technology a solution? Let's explore!
E7: Managing Country Resources & Assets, and Creating a Free Market Economy
Haiti is rich in Natural and Human Resources. From Land, maritime, and airspace resources, to a young population that is capable of working and adding value to the economy, to a rich history and culture with landmarks that can attract tourists, there is no shortage of potential income generating assets that can be exploited to produce wealth for the country. However, these resources are underutilized and underinvested. In this episode, we unravel what these various types of resources are, the wealth generating opportunities that exist in exploiting them, and could be done to begin taking advantage of them now. Finally, we also explore the idea of creating a Free Market Economy, that will not only create a flow of trust for local and foreign direct investments, but will also ensure that the country resources are accessible to all rather than monopolized by few.
E8: Preparing Haiti for the Jobs of the Future
Boundless opportunities exist to generate wealth for Haiti through the country's resources. With deliberate investment and effective governance of those resources, a pleathora of new jobs can also be created, stimulating the overall economy ad reducing insecurity.
E9: Education at scale: Creating greater access to knowledge for all
Education plays a central role in a country's prosperity.
Studies have shown that education of a Nation helps people become better citizens. It helps to create a sense of awareness of one’s environment, how to interact with it, how to behave and make sense of it, and ultimately how to contribute to it.
In this episode, we explore Haiti’s education ecosystem, what essential bodies of knowledge we as Haitians should be tapping into to (getting to know our country, it’s history, culture, and environment), and how we can educate citizens’ at scale by leveraging technology.
E10: Creating a National Service Corps - A mechanism for placing citizens at the service of the country
In episode 9, we discussed the idea of Education at Scale… but how can that be structured in such a way that all Haitians have equal access to this education? Moreover, how can this education be used in a practical way to move the country forward?
In this final episode of Season 1, we explorer the concept of National Service corps as a mechanism for placing citizens at the service of the country
